Polk County Seeks Public Feedback for Outdoor Recreation Plan Update

Polk County is updating its outdoor recreation plan to enhance recreational opportunities, address trends, and meet maintenance requirements. The county is seeking public input through an online survey available from July 19 to August 19.

Tim Anderson, county planner, highlighted that outdoor recreation has gained renewed attention over the past five years. He noted the development of a Trail Network Plan and the identification and implementation of numerous projects. These include an ATV Intensive Use Park, improved mountain biking trails, enhancements at DD Kennedy, a new boat launch at Atlas County Park, a new trailhead at the Visitor Center in St. Croix Falls, and more.

“Now, we are building on this progress to create even better recreational opportunities,” Anderson said, as reported by Dryden Wire on July 17.

The plan addresses maintenance requirements. By incorporating public input on maintenance needs, the county can prioritize resources effectively and maintain recreational areas in top condition.

Polk County offers Ahlgren Wildlife Preserve, Apple River Park & Campground, Atlas Park, Black Brook Park, DD Kennedy Park, and Lotus Lake Park for visitors to enjoy.

Additionally, the Polk County Department of Parks & Trails showcases four rentable shelters, an education building, primitive camping, and eight boat landings. These parks are located by the water, providing fishing access and playgrounds for family enjoyment.

Adventure seekers can explore over 400 miles of snowmobile trails, 31 miles of ATV/UTV trails, 40 miles of bicycling trails, 25 miles of cross-country skiing trails, and a 2-mile snowshoe trail. Polk County also features a wide range of recreational activities for all interests.

Polk County’s approach highlights the importance of seeking feedback in enhancing outdoor offerings, as it ensures that recreational facilities and programs align with the community’s needs and preferences. By gathering input through an online survey, the county can identify emerging trends, address specific maintenance requirements, and prioritize projects that resonate most with the public.
