Despite High Gas Prices, Some Wisconsin Campgrounds Already Full Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend

According to a report, RV campers are seeing high gas prices as summer approaches, but even so, Apple Creek Campground is already fully booked for Memorial Day weekend.

“I think everyone is just dying to get outside with the warmer weather, and hopefully, this will continue a little bit,” Apple Creek Campground Manager Pam Packee said.

Packee said they’re also running out of monthly sites for the summer.

“We’ve had a number of people who live in this area who want to do a long-term, monthly type of site. Where they can be here for the summer when the kids are off school. And just leave their camper here and enjoy themselves. We’re actually almost out of monthly sites for the summer, which is a new thing this year which I’m assuming is because of the gas prices. Besides the fact that we’re a wonderful place to be,” Packee said.

As per RV dealers, RV sales have increased this month too.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 plus years, and it’s never slowed down. We see a lot of younger families that have gotten into camping because it is still relatively an inexpensive form of entertainment for them,” Kunes RV inventory manager Brian Beno said.

Beno says that some people are interested in going from campsite to campsite, while others prefer staying close to home.

“A lot of people are staying local like I say, it seems like the maximum people are going is two hours, which is good for our own local area, and our local economy, the campgrounds are very busy which is good for them,” Beno said.

Packee highlighted that people enjoy wonderful summers in Wisconsin and want to make the most of it.

“Even if it’s putting in an extra $20 or whatever for gas to go someplace, you’re going to want to do that just because you want to take advantage of the great weather that we have here,” Packee said.

Isn’t it remarkable that Wisconsin campgrounds are fully booked despite the high gas prices? It’s an excellent time to explore lesser-known destinations and avoid the crowds.
