Governor Jim Justice Presents $1M Funding to Boost Mylan Park KOA Project

Governor Jim Justice attended a ceremony at West Virginia University before heading to Mylan Park, where he presented a $1 million check to support the next phase of the Mylan Park KOA project.

This funding, provided through the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) Program, will be dedicated to Phase II of the campground’s development, enhancing amenities and expanding capacity to boost tourism in the area.

Ron Justice, president of the Mylan Park Foundation, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, crediting Justice’s dedication to tourism and local growth as instrumental to the project’s progress. He emphasized that the project’s success reflects a strong collaboration between the state and local communities.

“Without the governor’s leadership, Phase I wouldn’t have started, and Phase II would not be possible,” Ron Justice noted, as reported by Dominion Post.

Phase I of the campground saw the installation of modular log cabins and essential infrastructure. The forthcoming second phase will add more cabins, bringing the total to 15, and improve campground roads, providing enhanced accommodations for visitors. Located adjacent to the Anker Fields Complex, the Mylan Park KOA is positioned to attract outdoor enthusiasts and travelers.

Upon completion, the campground will cover 37 acres and offer a range of amenities, including 169 RV sites, up to 25 cabins, tent sites, a clubhouse, and bathhouses. Under the Kampgrounds of America (KOA) brand, it aims to become a key attraction in West Virginia, drawing regional visitors and supporting the state’s broader tourism objectives.

Frank Witt, general manager of the Mylan Park KOA, also expressed enthusiasm for the project’s progress and acknowledged the role of state support. Witt pointed to the cooperative efforts among state agencies and local leaders as essential to achieving shared goals for the park’s expansion. “It’s exciting to see the governor and the support that he’s provided for us here at Mylan Park,” he said.
