RVIA Collaborates With Washington Department of Labor and Industries For Improved Electronic RV Plan Submittal Process

To provide more efficient service and faster communication for industry members, the RV Industry Association (RVIA) has been working with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries’ plan review division, also known as Factory Assembled Structures (FAS).

This collaboration aims to assist in implementing an electronic plan submission system for Park Models and RVs. It is also in place of the paper copies that the FAS division has previously requested, as per the News & Insights report of the RVIA.

Since 2021, the RV Industry has experienced significant delays in reviewing plans because of problems with staffing at FAS. These issues led to a massive backlog of RV plans and disrupted trade in the RV industry.

Through 2022, FAS will be able to fill some vacant positions. The backlog has diminished, but it is still there. To speed up processes for RV Industry, FAS is soliciting the entire RV industry to move to electronic plans submission.

Using the electronic plan submittal process has already shown benefits for RV manufacturers,” said Nick Rudowich, RVIA senior manager of Government Affairs. “Members have reported wait time for plan review and approval to go from months to days when using electronic submission.”

The full instructions for how to make an electronic submission are located here.

Look over the complete Information for Park Models and RVs packets on the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries website for more details. Note that the packets contain no details on paper submissions.

This department works hard to make these documents more current. They contain vital information about using the Washington Labor and Industries RV and Park Model RV process.
