Okanogan County Campgrounds, Trails, and Roads Reopen

Some of the trails, roads, and campgrounds in Okanogan County (Washington) affected by last summer’s wildfires have been reopened by the U.S. Forest Service, according to a report.

However, the government agency said that other areas burned by the Cedar Creek and Cub Creek 2 fires might take a year or more before reopening.

“Some closures will remain in effect until conditions stabilize, which could be a year or more in some cases because of an increased risk of debris flow from runoff and weather events, and concern for additional damage to trail treads or road surfaces,” the Forest Service said.

Reopened areas include the Falls Creek, Chewuch, and Camp 4 campgrounds. At the same time, trails include those in Falls Creek Falls, First Butte, and Eightmile Ridge. Meanwhile, all trail and road access up Cedar Creek, Wolf Creek, and Driveway Butte are now open.

Information on all trail closures in the Methow Valley Ranger District is available on the U.S. Forest Service website.

The department continues to work on mitigating fire-related hazards and reopening roads and facilities.
