Mason Neck State Park in Lorton, Virginia, is set to become the first state park in the region to debut all-terrain wheelchairs, enhancing accessibility for park visitors with mobility challenges.
The introduction of these wheelchairs will allow individuals to explore previously inaccessible trails, a significant step toward inclusivity in outdoor recreation. The event, scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a live demonstration of the all-terrain wheelchairs by park staff.
State officials, including Virginia State Parks Director Dr. Melissa Baker and Mason Neck State Park Manager Lance Elzie, will attend to speak about the importance of these improvements. Additionally, Delegate Kathy Tran and Senator Scott Surovell will attend the event.
The event will take place at the Bay View Trailhead and picnic area within Mason Neck State Park.
