Virginia State Parks campgrounds are set to open on March 3, offering various camping options, including cabins, yurts, bunkhouses, and RV sites.
Managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, the parks offer more than 1,800 campsites, ranging from primitive camping to RV sites with electric and water hookups.
The exceptions are Claytor Lake State Park, which will not open on April 1, and Douthat, Hungry Mother, Pocahontas, and Shenandoah River state parks, which have full-service campgrounds open year-round.
All parks with campgrounds now offer site-specific reservations for campsites, allowing campers to view an interactive map and choose an available site to reserve.
Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-800-933-7275. Lodging reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance, and camping reservations can be made up to 2 p.m. on the day of arrival.
In addition to the camping options, the parks offer a Customer Loyalty Program where campers can earn rewards for staying at a campground, cabin, bunkhouse, or lodge.
Those traveling with horses can visit the equestrian camping page for all the policies dealing with horses while camping.
The site-specific reservation system streamlines campers’ reservation process and ensures they have a designated spot upon arrival.
The announcement provides important information for those planning a camping trip to Virginia State Parks, which can help boost the outdoor recreation and hospitality economy.
