The 10th annual Lights at the Lake event at Bear Creek Lake State Park is set to run on December 6, 7, 8, and December 13, 14, 15, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitors can experience a drive-through holiday light display through the park’s campground and beach area, featuring community-decorated displays.
The event will also honor first responders on Saturday, December 7. Park Manager Joey Dayton highlighted the event’s significance, stating, “Saturday, December 7 is first responder night, and all first responders and military (active or veteran) will receive a free park pass for a future visit.”
Additional activities include refreshments at the Lakeside Snack Bar and holiday merchandise sales. A campfire near the picnic shelter will offer s’mores kits for donations, and children can enjoy free craft-making at an activity table. Guests are also advised to bring flashlights for convenience.
The Friends of Bear Creek Lake State Park will sell barbeque pork at Bear Creek Hall, with preorders accepted through December 6. Raffle tickets will also be offered for a handmade quilt and entry to the Powhatan Wine Festival. Attendees can also browse a merchandise table and take photos with Santa.
According to a press release, admission to the event each night is a new unwrapped toy or a monetary donation to benefit the Cumberland Christmas Mother. Last year, the event raised nearly $8,000 and collected 340 toys.
“There are two weekends to enjoy the lights and festivities, and we are excited to share this event with our guests,” said Dayton. “We hope you come out and make some memories at our park.”
