The Volkswagen ID.Buzz, the company’s electric take on its iconic Microbus, will make its North debut at SXSW from March 11 to 20.
To commemorate the debut of the electric vehicle (EV), Volkswagen will organize “Buzz Stops” throughout, , the company announced in a release. The ID. Buzz’s appearances are part of an overall three-year sponsorship deal between Volkswagen and SXSW.
For the duration of the, European-market ID. Buzz will roam around two stations close to Convention Center to deliver entertainment and information to those nearby.
“The VW Microbus has been emblematic of cultural ideals that have inspired change and driven progress, both in the U.S. and globally,” said Scott Keogh, president and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. “South by Southwest’s commitment to innovation and technology, coupled with its access to culture and creativity makes it the perfect venue for the ID. Buzz to make its first-ever public appearance. We’re excited to bring the ID. Buzz to and showcase the innovation packed into this newest member of our EV lineup.”
Drawing inspiration from the Type 2 Microbus, the ID. Buzz will provide an agile and dynamic driving experience. Based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform, it will provide the most cargo space in a tiny footprint.

This latest step in the brand’s efforts to electrify is expected to advance later in the year as the NorthID.4 EVs shift to assembly in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This move will support more than 4,000 jobs in the area.
