In the recent webinar hosted by the Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO), Leavitt Recreation & Hospitality Insurance Vice President Chris Hipple delved into the importance of creating written emergency response plans for emergencies and other incidents at parks.
Hipple said that the plans should have detailed instructions on how campground staff should handle various emergencies ranging from slip-and-falls to chemical spills to natural disasters.
Moreover, these plans should be made in coordination with local authorities, especially on topics like evacuations. In the event of an emergency, there should also be a plan coordinator and business management team who will address every aspect of the crisis.
Plans should also guide staff in the event of intentional crimes, civil disturbances, and other incidents at the park.
TACO’s webinar is one of the association’s efforts to educate its members. For attendees like Shari Duke, property management for Northlake Village RV Park in Roanoke webinars such as the recent one allows her staff to watch the presentation online and “get a refresher” on key risk management topics from an insurance risk perspective.
TACO will feature the topic of emergency preparedness in the Updated TACO Legal Handbook, coming out this fall, once dues collection and the 2023 TACO guide production are completed.
The next webinar is scheduled for October 11 at 10 a.m. Central Time and will provide park operators with a preview of TACO’s activities leading up to the 2023 legislative session in Texas.
Webinar speakers will include Ron Hinkle, TACO’s legislative consultant, Randall Dally, TACO’s president, and Brian Schaeffer, TACO’s executive director and CEO.
