The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) has awarded Al’s Hideaway in Pipe Creek, Texas, the Accommodations of the Year Award.
The park, developed by Jennifer Green and Gordon Cook, is named in honor of Green’s grandfather, Albert Banis, who was a prisoner of war during World War II. The park’s furnished cabins, crafted by Ulrich Barn Builders in Cleburne, played a role in capturing the judges’ attention and securing the award.
Al’s Hideaway opened its doors in 2017 with six cabins and 10 RV sites. Since then, the park has expanded to include six more cabins and two tipis. Green and Cook bring a wealth of experience to the park from their previous careers in construction.

Green worked for the Texas Department of Transportation while Cook was in the oil and gas industry, often working remotely from his recreational vehicle. Their combined expertise is instrumental in the park’s success.
Running Al’s Hideaway is a true family endeavor, with Green managing the park office and store, ensuring smooth operations, and Cook responsible for park maintenance. They receive support from Jennifer’s mother, Me Maw, who oversees the cabins and helps with grounds maintenance, and their oldest daughter, Samantha Jean, who handles reservations and other tasks.

“It’s a family business,” Cook said. The park boasts a variety of amenities that enhance the guest experience. A 60-by-40-foot pavilion features an outdoor kitchen, big-screen TV, surround-sound speakers, and a swimming pool. Outdoor games such as cornhole, disc golf, volleyball, horseshoes, and checkers are scattered throughout the park for guests to enjoy.
In addition to recreational activities, the campground store at Al’s Hideaway provides guests with essential supplies, including food, drinks, ice, and souvenirs.
TACO, based in Crowley, Texas, is a 52-year-old trade association representing over 430 campgrounds, RV parks, and resorts across the state. The association provides valuable support and resources to its members, promoting the outdoor hospitality industry in Texas.
