Bradley County Commission Approves Luxury RV Park on Hiwassee River

The Bradley County Commission (Tennessee) this week voted to approve the rezoning of an 8-acre luxury RV park along the Hiwassee River despite some residents who believe that the zoning regulations aren’t clear enough.

As per a report, Billy Thomas, the developer of the property, rezoned Monday under the new planning rules that regulate mobile home parks and travel trailers parks, encountered some roadblocks along the way to building what he hopes is a unique luxury development east of Charleston. However, the commission’s Monday decision cleared the way for him to begin the first phase of work.

“It’s a big relief,” Thomas said. “I think I have shown everybody — both the commissioners and the public — I just want to do the right thing.”

Thomas plans to build a premium park to lease or sell spaces to luxury RV owners looking to retire or have seasonal homes in a development that offers full amenities.

His tentative design includes huge concrete pads for luxury RVs, a clubhouse, a community pavilion, a fire pit, and a boat launch site on the creek running through the back of the property.

In 1999 Bradley County leaders established new regulations for mobile homes. They included conditions for all roads in a mobile home park to meet county road construction standards so they can be adopted into the county road system.
