RVIA Report: RV Shipments See 7% Increase in May 2024

The RV Industry Association’s (RVIA) latest survey of manufacturers revealed an increase in total RV shipments for May 2024, recording 33,150 units. This marks a 7.2% increase compared to the 30,919 units shipped in May 2023.

RVIA President & CEO Craig Kirby explained that as the summer RV travel season begins, 45 million Americans are expected to make lasting memories with friends and family by going RVing.

“Shipments are continuing to show moderate increases over last year as units head to dealerships across the country where consumers will find an RV to fit every budget and lifestyle,” Kirby said in a News & Insights report of RVIA.

According to RVIA’s RV shipment summary, towable RVs, primarily conventional travel trailers, saw a 13.5% increase from last May, totaling 30,177 shipments. Meanwhile, the motorhome segment experienced a downturn, with shipments declining by 31.2% to 2,973 units compared to the same month last year.

Year-to-date figures show overall growth for the RV industry. Through May, total shipments reached 153,288 units, an 8.9% rise from the previous year. Additionally, towable RVs increased by 14.9%, while motorhomes decreased by 23.4%.

Park Model RVs saw a 24.4% drop in wholesale shipments, totaling 363 units. The year-to-date figures also reflected a downward trend, with a 30.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.

In addition to May’s report, the RVIA survey of manufacturers April 2024 reported a significant rise in total RV shipments, reaching 34,197 units. This marks a 9.5% increase compared to the 31,216 units shipped in April 2023.

Towable RVs saw a notable surge, with 30,682 shipments in April 2024, reflecting a 14.2% increase from the previous year.

In contrast, motorhome shipments experienced a decline. April 2024 saw only 3,512 units shipped, a 19.4% decrease compared to the same month last year. Park model RVs also did not share the same upward trajectory. Shipments for this category fell by 6.2% in April 2024, totaling 453 units.

In addition, figures reveal a positive trend, with 120,138 units shipped through April 2024, marking a 9.4% increase compared to last year.
