RV Industry Marketing Shifts Toward Quiet, Less-Structured Getaways for 2027

RV industry marketers are being encouraged to promote quieter, less-structured vacations as a 2027 travel trend, with messaging focused on relaxation, flexibility and fewer obligations rather than packed itineraries and scheduled activities.

According to a News and Insights report of RVIA, the approach, described as “quiet questing,” centers on travelers seeking vacations that offer an escape from everyday demands, including planning, organizing and keeping family members entertained.

RVing is being positioned as an option for travelers who want a familiar, flexible home base and the freedom to decide how to spend their time.

An October 2026 survey commissioned by IHG Hotels & Resorts and conducted by Talker Research found that more than half of Americans with travel plans for the coming year often or always return from vacations feeling drained.

The trend guidance identifies holiday travel as a potential opportunity for RV businesses to promote trips that allow travelers to slow down, spend time outdoors and choose activities at their own pace.

Marketing recommendations include a social media series titled “Freedom to Just Be,” featuring examples such as slow mornings, coffee with a view, reading by a campfire and afternoons without planned activities.

For blogs and email campaigns, the guidance suggests content built around “The Art of Doing Less: How to Plan a Quiet RV Getaway.” Recommended material includes a two-night itinerary, peaceful destinations and optional activities that travelers can choose based on their interests.

The guidance also recommends addressing questions travelers may ask artificial intelligence tools when researching trips, including where to find a quiet weekend getaway nearby and how to plan a relaxing holiday road trip.

Media outreach is another suggested strategy, with travel, wellness and lifestyle publications identified as potential targets for stories about vacations that allow greater flexibility and disconnection from daily responsibilities.

RV businesses are encouraged to offer customer testimonials describing how shorter, less-structured getaways can provide an alternative to vacations built around tightly scheduled activities.

The marketing approach emphasizes traveler autonomy, including the ability to choose whether to participate in activities and how to spend time during a trip. The guidance identifies these characteristics as central to promoting RV vacations around the quiet questing trend.
