Pennsylvania campground operators are calling for Senate action on House Bill 1424, legislation that seeks to clarify that privately owned campgrounds are not subject to local admissions taxes after the measure passed the Pennsylvania House with bipartisan support.
The bill now awaits consideration in the Pennsylvania Senate, where industry stakeholders say its outcome could directly affect campground pricing structures, business operations, and the broader competitiveness of outdoor hospitality offerings across the state.
The proposed legislation is intended to resolve uncertainty surrounding the application of local admissions taxes to privately owned campgrounds. Such taxes, if applied, could increase costs for guests and place additional financial pressure on campground operators.
The association is urging its members to contact state senators and advocate for the bill’s advancement. Specifically, campground owners are being asked to reach out, encourage coordination with Senator Brown, and communicate how the tax issue affects their businesses, customers, and local tourism economies.
Direct engagement from business owners could influence legislative momentum as the bill moves through the Senate. “Every message makes a difference. Together, we can protect Pennsylvania campgrounds, support small businesses, and keep outdoor recreation accessible for all,” the announcement adds.
The Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association, established in 1963, represents more than 215 privately owned campgrounds and RV parks across the state. The organization operates as a nonprofit trade association focused on advancing the interests of independently owned outdoor hospitality businesses.
Membership within the association includes campgrounds that meet defined operational criteria, including maintaining at least five designated campsites and complying with all applicable state licensing and regulatory requirements.
Properties may offer amenities such as electric and sewer hookups, bathhouses, recreational facilities and retail services.
