The Umatilla National Forest in Oregon is expanding its camping options by adding three new campsites to its reservation system on Recreation.gov. The newly added campgrounds, Woodward, Target Meadows, and Woodland, are all located in the Walla Walla Ranger District, offering more advance booking options.
According to an article published by Elkhorn Media Group, Shane Dittlinger, Umatilla National Forest Recreation Program Manager, said, “We are thrilled to offer three more reservations to our communities for these popular campgrounds. Recreation.gov provides an easy and seamless way for people to check the availability at one of these campgrounds and guarantee your spot before making the trip to the Forest.”
Visitors can now reserve single and double campsites up to six months in advance, while group sites can be booked up to a year ahead. Reservations made through Recreation.gov or by phone will incur an $8 transaction fee in addition to the campsite fee.
The forest service has provided a dedicated phone line (877-444-6777) operating from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific Time for reservations. Campsite fees in the Umatilla National Forest typically range from $8 to $24 per night, with additional fees for extra vehicles.
To accommodate spontaneous campers, any sites not reserved by 12 a.m each day will become available on a first-come, first-served basis. The forest has also maintained a limited number of first-come, first-served campsites at each of these three campgrounds.
The Umatilla National Forest offers a variety of overnight experiences, including almost 40 campgrounds and 13 cabin rentals. In addition to the new sites, campsites at Bull Prairie Lake, Jubilee Lake, North Fork John Day, and Olive Lake Campgrounds are also available for reservation on Recreation.gov.
