The Bureau of Land Management’s Klamath Falls Field Office announced the reopening of Gerber Campground in Oregon for Memorial Day weekend.
Gerber Campground offers a range of facilities to accommodate various camping preferences. Developed campsites are available at Gerber North and South Campgrounds. For a more rustic experience, the area also provides primitive campsites, a dedicated horse camp, and a day-use area. Additionally, two boat ramps provide easy access to the water, catering to fishing enthusiasts.
Mike Limb, acting field manager for Klamath Falls, emphasized the significance of the opening. “We are pleased to have these campgrounds open in time for Memorial Day weekend. Camping is a great way for families to connect with nature and learn about the natural wonders on public lands,” he said in a press release.
Situated in the high desert, the Gerber Recreation Area is approximately an hour’s drive east of Klamath Falls. The area is known for its rugged mountain ridges and scattered Ponderosa pine forest. The natural features offer a unique setting for camping, fishing, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
In addition to recreational activities, the campground amenities include drinking water, vault restrooms, a dump station, and camp hosts. A fishing cleaning station is available at North Gerber, and trash cans are placed throughout the area. Day-use parking is also provided for visitors planning shorter stays.
Camping at Gerber Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The fees are $7 per night, with a reduced rate of $4 for seniors, military, and access card holders. Day-use parking is available for a fee of $2. There is a 14-day stay limit, and dogs are permitted as long as they are kept on a six-foot leash.
Aligning the reopening of Gerber Campground with significant holidays and events, such as Memorial Day weekend, can maximize visitor engagement and revenue. This strategy can offer valuable lessons for private RV park owners and campground operators. The anticipation surrounding a well-timed opening during Memorial Day weekend can boost visibility and potentially increase occupancy rates.
