Last Friday marked the official opening of the Shawnee State Park Ohio River Campground, and campsites are expected to book up quickly. The campground featured 80 full-service hookup sites and various amenities for campers and daytime visitors.
According to the Ohio DNR, naturalists will be on site to provide tours of the River Walk Trail, and instructors will be at the paddling pond to test visitors’ paddling skills.
The Ohio River Campground features 12 electric sites, two of which are ADA-accessible. The sites offer level, gravel pads, fire rings, picnic tables, and allow pets. Portable toilets are also available. Shawnee State Park offers two different campgrounds, and reservations may be made up to six months in advance online or by calling (866) 644-6727.
The campground also offers various activities that campers and parkgoers can enjoy including disc golf, a 3D archery range, a static archery range, a playground, a splash pad ($2 fee for non-campers), a dog park, and outdoor fitness equipment.
