Spacious Skies Bear Den Welcomes Guests Again After Hurricane Helene Repairs

Spacious Skies Bear Den, a campground situated near Spruce Pine, North Carolina, has partially reopened following significant repairs necessitated by damages from Hurricane Helene. The campground, located near milepost 324.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, experienced severe impacts during the late September storm. Efforts to restore services have now made a portion of the facility available to the public.

As of this reopening, Spacious Skies Bear Den offers 21 RV sites and six deluxe cabins for bookings. Additionally, the campground store is operating with limited hours throughout the winter season. These accommodations provide a much-needed option for those seeking last-minute holiday getaways, offering full hookups, including water and electricity, for RVs.

According to a press release, Ali Rasmussen, co-founder of Spacious Skies Campgrounds, expressed gratitude for the community’s support during the recovery process. “While the road to recovery in this region has been a long one, we are immensely grateful for the tremendous support that we have received from the local community, including first-responders, countless volunteers, and our dedicated staff, many who played a vital part of bringing the campground back online while also dealing with damages at their own homes and in their communities,” Rasmussen said. She encouraged visitors to explore and support local businesses and attractions as the region rebuilds.

The campground’s location adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Pisgah National Forest also offers a variety of nearby attractions. Guests can visit popular destinations such as Linville Falls Winery, Julian Price Lake, Linville Gorge, and Mount Mitchell.

Other activities include horseback riding at Elk Mountain Riding Company and gem mining at Gem Mountain, providing visitors with opportunities to experience Western North Carolina’s natural beauty and outdoor adventures.

Spacious Skies Bear Den is one of three North Carolina locations within the 15-campground Spacious Skies collection. In addition to Bear Den, the company operates Spacious Skies Hidden Creek near Marion and Spacious Skies Sandy Run near Fayetteville. Of the company’s locations, nine remain open during the winter months, making the campgrounds accessible for year-round travelers.

For frequent visitors, Spacious Skies offers a loyalty program called “Cosmic Campers.” Members can save up to 12% on RV sites, cabins, and other accommodations by paying an annual fee of $31.90.

Spacious Skies Campgrounds is a rapidly growing owner and operator of RV campgrounds, offering a mix of RV, tent, cabin, and glamping sites across 15 locations from Maine to Georgia.
