Avon by the Sea, North Carolina’s new oceanfront RV park near Avon Pier, will open on May 20, with reservations now available online for the coming summer season.
The park will include 26 fully hookup spots, an electronic gated entrance, and a bathhouse on-site, as per a report.
The initial plan was for the park to be open for the summer of 2021. However, a variety of problems—such as labor and material shortages as well as delays due to weather—have slowed the process.
Reservations are already pouring in, shared Joe Thompson, the park’s owner, and Avon Pier, operator.
“We opened the platform on Monday, and immediately got 40 reservations in the first hour or two,” shared Thompson. The RV camping industry exploded after WWII… and in the last couple of years, RV-ing and campgrounds have been growing in popularity once again.”
Even though the two-acre RV park occupies the northern portion of the property adjacent to the Avon Pier, parking for frequent Avon Pier visitors will not be affected significantly.
“The Avon Pier parking will not change from last year,” Thompson said. “The only way it’s changing from last year is that there will be one more food truck, [Roots&Leaves], that will be next to Stu’s food truck.”
The brand-new RV park could fill a gap in the availability of accommodations in Avon since Avon is home to a motel and a soundside campground, yet there are a few options for overnight stays. Avon by the Sea RV Park will focus on attracting only short-term guests (with no long-term leases being planned). The park will be the only oceanfront RV park located in Avon village.
