Las Cruces KOA has transitioned from a KOA Journey to a KOA Holiday designation after several years of investments in accommodations, amenities and recreational facilities, according to an announcement from Kampgrounds of America (KOA) on June 15.
The new designation reflects improvements made by the campground’s owners since acquiring the property in 2020, including infrastructure upgrades, new guest facilities and expanded recreation offerings.
The campground is located in southern New Mexico near the Organ Mountains and Mesilla Valley. KOA said the property is about 45 minutes from White Sands National Park and minutes from Old Mesilla.
“Through years of investment and enhancements, our campground has evolved, and we’re excited that our KOA brand designation now aligns with the amenities and experiences available to our campers,” Chris Scianna, an owner of Las Cruces KOA Holiday, said in a press release. “This new brand designation reflects the community, amenities, and atmosphere we’ve worked so hard to create.”
According to KOA, ownership has completed an extensive transformation of the campground since 2020. Improvements include the addition of hundreds of trees and shrubs, more than 3,000 feet of rock walls, paved roads, remodeled RV sites and upgraded Wi-Fi service.
The property has also added a bathhouse with private family-style restrooms and ADA-compliant facilities, a camp store, community room, outdoor camping kitchen, KampK9 dog park with a complimentary dog wash station, community gathering spaces and fire pits.
Additional upgrades include new KOA Patio RV sites and remodeled campsites featuring upgraded furniture and fire amenities. The campground recently purchased a Deluxe Cabin and plans to add a second cabin by the end of the year.
Guest amenities at the campground include complimentary morning coffee and pastries, a seasonal pool, playground, basketball court, cornhole, tetherball and outdoor community areas.
Scianna said guest response to the campground’s amenities has resulted in longer stays.
“Seven out of 10 times, guests either extend their stay or wish they could stay longer because of the experience here,” Scianna said. “We’ve focused on creating spaces where campers can gather, connect, and enjoy the outdoors together.”
KOA said the campground’s Net Promoter Score increased from 77 in 2020 to as high as 96 in recent years. The company also reported record camper nights and continued reservation growth.
The announcement cited findings from KOA’s annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, which found that campers contributed $66 billion to local economies in 2025.
According to the report, the average camper spent more than $200 per day while camping, while 33% said they were interested in visiting small towns and 38% reported interest in historic sites.
Las Cruces KOA Holiday, located at 814 Weinrich Road, is open year-round and is part of KOA’s network of more than 500 campgrounds across the United States and Canada.
