The days are becoming shorter, which means it’s time to celebrate the upcoming Winter Solstice. Bandelier National Monument (New Mexico) will again offer the popular Winter Solstice Walks from Tuesday, December 20, to December 22, Thursday.

The program will begin right in front of the visitor center in Frijoles Canyon at 7:15 am and 1:50 pm every day, according to a news release by the National Parks Service.

“Even though the winter solstice occurs on December 21, the sunrise and sunset will line up with a sun petroglyph in Frijoles Canyon on all three days,” said Superintendent Patrick Suddath. “It’s quite a spectacular thing to see.”

Because of the popularity of the program and popularity, walking options have been increased. Participants who want to participate are advised to contact the visitor center at 505-672-3861 at ext. 0 before RSVP.
