As of December 14, the construction project to pave the access road through Davis Creek Recreation Area near North Loup is making notable progress, thanks to favorable weather conditions in recent weeks.
As of this past Tuesday, approximately 1,200 feet of the total 3,300 feet of concrete roadway has been completed. NLC, LLC, based in York, is the contractor responsible for the work.
According to a report by the Sandhills Express, the project aims to improve access to the recreation area by paving the existing two-lane gravel road from the entrance to the east campground loop.
In addition to the road, parking areas near the shower house and playground equipment will also be paved. The project includes drainage improvements in the area to help manage water flow and prevent erosion.
Funding for the project is provided by Bureau of Reclamation Title 28 grant funds, as well as the Lower Loup Natural Resources District (NRD).
Title 28 grant funds were previously used for other improvements at Davis Creek, including the campground expansion in 2017, and the construction of the RV dump station, playgrounds, and a maintenance shed.
As work progresses, access to the recreation area will remain closed for the duration of the project. This means that campground reservations are not being accepted at this time. However, the adjacent Wildlife Management Area remains open to the public.
Although the road closure is scheduled to last until December 31, the project may extend beyond this date, depending on weather conditions and the pace of construction. The contractor will continue to work as long as weather permits, and the community is encouraged to monitor the situation for updates.
