Clarkco State Park to Reopen Following Extensive Facility Enhancements

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks announced that Clarkco State Park in Quitman will officially reopen to the public at 8:00 a.m. on March 19. This reopening follows a series of significant renovations aimed at modernizing the park’s overnight accommodations and guest amenities.

The park now features 43 updated campsites specifically designed for RV camping. According to the department, each of these sites offers full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewer services, alongside a dedicated picnic table and grill.

In addition to the expanded RV infrastructure, the park has introduced six renovated cabins. These units have been updated with stainless steel kitchen appliances, solid surface countertops in the dining areas, and new furniture throughout the living rooms and bedrooms.

Modern technology and comfort upgrades in the cabins include satellite flat-screen televisions and bathrooms equipped with walk-in fiberglass showers. The exterior of each cabin now includes a new porch with a picnic table, firepit, and grill, as well as a screened-in back porch with outdoor furniture.

Broader park improvements also include renovations to the lodge and the bathhouse facilities. Reservations for both the cabins and the improved campgrounds are currently being accepted as the park prepares for its spring debut.

Visitors to the park can access various recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and a nature trail. The grounds also feature a disc golf course, tennis courts, and a day-use area with a playground for families.

The entry fee for the park is $2.00 per person, while children aged five and under may enter for free. These upgrades represent a continued effort by state agencies to provide high-quality outdoor experiences for residents and travelers alike.

The modernization of state park facilities is vital for the outdoor recreation industry as it sets a benchmark for service standards that private campgrounds and RV parks must meet to remain competitive.
