Clarkco State Park in Mississippi is undergoing upgrades to all 43 campsites as part of a comprehensive campground improvement.
The upgrades are intended to ensure the park’s camping facilities are fully functional and competitive as visitors return for weekend and seasonal stays.
“We renovated the whole park, all 43 campsites,” Park Manager Toney Fleming said, as reported by Twin States News on January 15.
The project included the replacement of all major utilities serving the campsites. Crews installed new sewer and water lines, upgraded electrical systems, rebuilt campsite pads, and added new picnic benches and grills at each site.
The work was necessary to modernize the campground and ensure systems operate efficiently when visitors arrive.
“It meant taking down some trees, if you look through this park, we did lose a lot of trees in order to make these renovations but that’s what it took,” Fleming said.
As the project enters its final phase, Clarkco State Park said the campground will soon be available again for public use.
The renovations mark a significant investment in the park’s long-term operations and reflect broader efforts to maintain state park facilities for public use.
According to its website, located just south of Meridian near the Mississippi–Alabama state line, Clarkco State Park has been a fixture of outdoor recreation in Mississippi since opening in 1938.
The park provides a range of overnight accommodations and recreational opportunities. Visitors can choose from RV and tent camping areas, as well as cabins and cottages, allowing for flexible stays suited to different camping preferences.
Water-based activities are also a draw, supported by amenities such as a boat launch, fishing access, and kayak rentals.
Additional facilities are designed to serve both individual visitors and groups. Clarkco State Park features a visitor and meeting room, campground laundry facilities, pavilions and picnic areas, a playground, and playing fields.
Recreational options include tennis courts, disc golf, nature and mountain bike trails, and an amphitheater, along with a splash pad that provides a family-friendly attraction during warmer months.
Day-use visitors have access to 60 picnic sites located in a shaded area surrounding Ivy Lake. Each site includes tables, barbecue grills, and nearby playground equipment. Three large picnic pavilions are available by reservation and are commonly used for company picnics, family reunions, and church or school outings.
