A new campground, a dream realized by Dale and Patti Thormodsgard, has opened in Solway, Minnesota. Bergamo Campground, situated at 15661 Tom Jefferson Drive NW, is now ready to welcome campers throughout the summer season.
Bergamo Campground spans 232 acres and features 49 campsites. The campsites, measuring 60 feet wide and 100 feet deep, come equipped with 50/30/20 amp metered electricity, septic, and water.
The campground aims to host not only campers but also events, weddings, and concerts. Dale Thormodsgard also emphasized that their primary goal is to attract seasonal campers and establish long-term relationships with them.
“We will always accommodate the folks on the road if they need to stay the night. Even for the seasonal people, if they have friends or family that want to camp in the same campground, we always want to have some spaces for them to be able to do that,” Dale explained, as reported by the Bemidji Pioneer on June 5.
According to its website, other amenities include playground swings and slides, as well as extensive walking, biking, and golf cart trails. Additionally, fiber optic and cable services are available through Paul Bunyan Communications, though fees apply.
Patti reflected on their connection to the property. “We fell in love with this property. It just seemed like everything was falling into place. There was a reason we were called to come here,” she said.
In addition to the amenities, the pet-friendly campground is easily accessible via US Highway 2. It is near numerous Beltrami County lakes, including Lake Bemidji, Upper Red Lake, and Cass Lake. The property also features wildlife and bird viewing opportunities, enhancing the natural camping experience.
To further enhance the campground’s appeal, development projects are underway. These include a sports complex, a bathhouse, a laundry facility, a 15-acre pond, and a wedding venue.
Patti noted the lifelong dream for the campground. “Everything is in this. They say don’t put all your eggs in one basket, but guess what? This is a dream that needed to happen,” Patti said.
The case of Bergamo Campground demonstrates how offering diverse amenities and leveraging natural features like bird watching opportunities can significantly enhance the appeal of a campsite. Future developments can benefit from this approach by prioritizing comprehensive amenities and promoting unique natural experiences to create an attractive campground.
