Major Changes Announced for Camping Reservations at Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday Campground

Campers looking forward to the 2024 season at the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday Campground, take note: significant changes to the reservation system are on the horizon. The 2023 spring camping season has just begun, but the campground is already planning ahead and making improvements to better serve its guests, including updates to the reservation process.

Mark Lemoine, the owner of Fifth Level Hospitality, Inc., which owns and operates the campground, stressed the importance of meeting guests’ needs: “One of the core beliefs of the KOA system is that we are entrepreneurial and always challenging ourselves to do better. That’s why it’s critical to evaluate what our guests are asking, so we can better meet their needs.”

In response to record consumer demand, reservations for the entirety of the 2024 season will open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2023, allowing guests to book advanced reservations up to eighteen months ahead of time.

As a pioneer in outdoor hospitality, Kampgrounds of America (KOA) launched real-time internet reservations before 2010, followed by the introduction of online features such as “Select My Site” and “Market Basket.” These innovations allow guests to choose a specific site and make multiple reservations in a single transaction for different dates, sites, and/or stays at different KOAs.

The surge in interest in camping, with nearly 30 million households starting or renewing their interest in the outdoors since 2020, has led to this change in the reservation system. According to the 2022 Annual North American Camping Report, 93.3 million North American households now camp annually.

Mark added, “Too often guests would ask us if they could make reservations for the following year, and we would need to tell them ‘no.’ We are confident that leading this new industry standard will be a welcome change for those who like to plan ahead for themselves and their families.”

For private campground owners and operators, these changes within the KOA network showcase the importance of adapting to evolving consumer demands – particularly in the face of increased interest in camping and outdoor recreation. By monitoring industry trends and addressing guests’ needs, private campground businesses can ensure they remain competitive and provide a high-quality experience for their clientele.

It is also essential for private campground owners to invest in technology and online reservation systems, as demonstrated by KOA’s emphasis on real-time booking and user-friendly features. By staying up-to-date with the latest advancements, private campgrounds can offer a seamless and convenient reservation process for their guests while staying ahead of emerging trends within the industry.

In light of the growing interest in camping and the desire for long-term planning, this change in the reservation system is expected to cater to the evolving needs of campers and their families. As the industry continues to adapt, campers can look forward to even more improvements and innovations, providing them with the best possible outdoor experience.
