Maine Outdoor Economy Summit to Tackle Recreation Industry Growth This November

The Maine Outdoor Economy Summit, a three-day event designed to foster collaboration and innovation in the state’s outdoor recreation industry, will be held from November 13-15 at Sunday River.

The summit will bring together leaders, policymakers, educators, and economic developers for a comprehensive program aimed at advancing Maine’s outdoor economy. The event will provide a platform for industry leaders to connect, learn, and discuss pressing issues, all with the shared goal of supporting sustainable growth within Maine’s unique outdoor sector.

According to its website, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with fellow industry professionals, exchange ideas, and explore collaborative solutions to ongoing challenges in the outdoor economy. With topics covering workforce development, economic expansion, and equitable access, the summit aims to address both current and future needs in Maine’s outdoor industry. Participants will also be encouraged to share insights that can drive innovative approaches to environmental sustainability and community engagement.

The summit, which is geared towards outdoor industry leaders including business owners, policymakers, community partners, and youth leaders, offers a series of tailored sessions designed for professional growth and strategic development. By providing a setting conducive to networking and idea-sharing, organizers hope to inspire new partnerships and practical solutions for industry challenges, thereby reinforcing Maine’s reputation as a hub for outdoor innovation and sustainability.

“It’s a place to create new partnerships, network with old friends, and highlight the importance of outdoor recreation for Maine’s economy overall and its deeply rooted connection to the health and well-being of our people, places, and communities,” the event indicated on its website.

Registration for the event is open. Attendees will receive access to all summit sessions, networking events, and specific meals throughout the event, including a Wednesday reception, Thursday breakfast, breaks, lunch, and reception, and Friday breakfast.

Beyond these highlight events, the summit will delve into workforce dynamics within the outdoor sector. Sessions such as “Passing the Torch” will discuss strategies for succession planning and career growth, while other sessions will focus on creating pathways for young professionals to enter and thrive in outdoor-related careers. The summit will also feature “Harnessing AI: Innovations and Applications for the Outdoor Industry.”

The summit will also explore sustainable practices and public-private partnerships aimed at preserving the state’s natural landscapes.

A central networking feature of the summit is the “Small Business Speed Networking” session, which allows participants to meet with experts and resource providers on topics such as grant access, market expansion, and finding interns.
