New Rental Cabins to Enhance Kentucky’s Highest State Park Experience

As spring approaches, Kingdom Come State Park in Harlan County, Kentucky, is set to offer an exciting new feature to its visitors.

The park, renowned for its high elevation, is nearing the completion of its first rental cabin, with plans to add more in the near future. This development is anticipated to attract more visitors looking for outdoor adventures and scenic stays.

According to a Harlan Enterprise report, Kingdom Come State Park, the highest state park in Kentucky, is enhancing its visitor experience with the introduction of rental cabins. Park Manager Sherry Cornett revealed in a recent interview that the first of these cabins is on the brink of completion, promising guests an unparalleled view of the park’s natural beauty.

The initiative to introduce rental cabins at Kingdom Come State Park aims to provide guests with comfortable and scenic accommodations.

According to Cornett, the park is converting a former park residence into a cottage rental property, located at the park’s summit. This strategic location offers guests breathtaking views right from their living room windows or porches.

Cornett emphasized the unique appeal of staying at the highest point in any Kentucky state park. Guests will have the opportunity to watch the sunset from an elevation unmatched by any other park in the state, adding a memorable experience to their stay.

The construction of the first cabin began in late fall of the previous year, with a goal to complete it by mid-spring. Cornett expressed optimism about the progress, noting that the project is about 65 to 70 percent complete. The fast pace of recent developments suggests that the cabin may be ready ahead of schedule.

Significant progress has been made on the cabin, with the drywall already installed and the exterior siding nearly finished. The selection of interior furnishings, including bedding, furniture, and flooring, is underway, indicating that the cabin will offer a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment for guests.

Once completed, the cabin will feature two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a bath, accommodating up to five guests. Its design includes a vaulted ceiling and a patio, providing a luxurious stay for visitors. Additionally, the cabin’s location at the trailhead of the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail offers direct access to one of Kentucky’s most beautiful hiking paths.

The cabin’s proximity to the Pine Mountain Scenic Trail allows guests to enjoy immediate access to outdoor activities. The trail is known for its scenic beauty and provides a perfect backdrop for a stay at Kingdom Come State Park.

Cornett also highlighted the cabin’s availability for upcoming park activities. These include Black Light Mini Golf, an Easter Scavenger Hunt featuring a black light Easter Egg hunt, the Raven Rock 5k, and several bicycle events. These activities, scheduled for March and April, promise a vibrant and engaging experience for park visitors.

The introduction of rental cabins at Kingdom Come State Park is part of a broader effort to enhance the visitor experience. By offering comfortable accommodations with easy access to outdoor activities, the park aims to attract more guests and encourage them to explore the natural beauty of Kentucky.
