Saylorville Lake, Lake Red Rock Campgrounds to Close for Upgrades and Repairs

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District (Iowa) will be closing some campgrounds as well as day-use recreation areas around Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock ahead of schedule in the fall to complete much-needed improvements and repairs to sewer and water line systems.

According to a release, at Saylorville Lake, the Acorn Valley (RV sites), Bob Shetler, Cherry Glen, Prairie Flower campgrounds, and the Bob Shetler and Cherry Glen picnic areas will be closed for the season starting at 3 p.m. on September 6.

Acorn Valley campground tent camping will be available until October 17 per the scheduled date.

At Lake Red Rock, the Howell Station and North Overlook campgrounds, as well as the North Overlook and Fifield picnic areas, will be closed beginning September 6 at 3 p.m.

In addition, the Wallashuck, Whitebreast, and Ivans campgrounds will not be affected by closures and will be open until their closure dates in October.

All reservations at affected campsites and picnic shelters have been canceled and fully refunded by Recreation One Stop, the national reservation system. No further reservations will be accepted for sites within the closed areas after September 6.
