Public Hearing Set for Proposed 180-Site RV Park in Chesterton

A Chesterton (Indiana) couple plans to start building its proposed RV resort on U.S. 20 and Tremont Road this year and be operational by the summer of 2023.

Trevin Fowler and his wife Kimberly Fowler own Third Cottage LLC. According to a report, the two presented to the Porter Plan Commission the proposal for a planned unit development (PUD) ordinance on Wednesday. The PUD will determine how the project could be carried out.

The proposal received a favorable response from the planning commission.

The Fowlers have the option to purchase 50.53 acres, which is comprised of two parcels at the northeast part of Tremont Road and U.S. 20. The property is currently owned by Lake Erie Land Co. and includes a barn, a house, and outbuildings that the Fowlers are hoping to integrate into their new development.

If the plan is approved by the town council, Fowler said that 18 acres on the western part of the property would be initially developed. A house and outbuildings are already situated on Tremont Road, which would be the entry and exit point to the park.

In the beginning, there would be 67 RV sites. After the project is completed, the resort will be able to accommodate 180 RVs. It is also planned to eventually construct ten cabins on the eastern portion of the property. These could be used for corporate gatherings.

The Plan Commission voted 6-0 to organize a public hearing about the subject at its meeting on March 16, voting after the hearing.

The final decision is up to the town council.

Isn’t it delightful that Trevin and Kimberly Fowler are bringing their vision of an RV resort to life in Chesterton? The enthusiastic reception from the community and the Fowlers’ commitment to sustainable design make this an exhilarating development. It’s wonderful to see the potential economic and recreational benefits this project could bring. I can’t wait to see this harmonious blend of nature and modern amenities come to life!
