The Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit arrived in Elkhart, Indiana, with a grand motorcade last May 21-23.
Organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, this traveling exhibit serves as a powerful reminder of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, aiming to educate the public and ensure that future generations never forget.
Patrick Industries was instrumental in bringing this exhibit to Elkhart. Jeff Rodino, president of Patrick Industries, emphasized the significance of the exhibit’s visit, as per the News & Insights report of the RV Industry Association (RVIA).
“This powerful tribute will leave a lasting impression, and I am thrilled that Elkhart will be one of the first cities to experience the new exhibit,” Rodino said, as quoted in the RVIA report.
The 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into a 1,100 square foot exhibit featuring World Trade Center steel, an aluminum façade, radio transmissions from first responders, and artifacts from the rubble. This newly upgraded exhibit has more artifacts and historical information than ever before, providing a comprehensive educational experience.
Elkhart Mayor Rod Roberson praised Patrick Industries for their continued community engagement.
“Patrick Industries has always been such a good corporate citizen of Elkhart. We are so grateful to the Patrick team for partnering with Tunnel to Towers to bring this opportunity for education and remembrance to Elkhart,” said Roberson.
The exhibit tours are led by retired New York City firefighters who responded on 9/11, sharing their personal experiences from that day and the days following. These firsthand accounts bring history to life, especially for those who were not yet born or are too young to remember the events of September 11.
The media was invited to cover the motorcade last May 21 and attend the opening ceremony last May 22 at 11:00 AM. The ceremony featured a performance of the National Anthem by singer-songwriter Julia James and speeches from Mayor Rod Roberson, Assistant Chief Kristi Sommer of the Elkhart Fire Department, and retired FDNY Lieutenant Pat Clancy.
The exhibit opened to the public last May 22 and 23 from 12:30 PM to 6:30 PM each day, offering the community an opportunity to learn about and reflect on the significant events of 9/11.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller who lost his life on 9/11, continues its mission to support first responders, veterans, and their families. The foundation’s dedication to educating the public about the sacrifices made on that day is evident through the 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit.
By bringing this moving memorial to Elkhart, Patrick Industries and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation provide a vital opportunity for reflection and education, ensuring the heroism and tragedy of September 11 are never forgotten.
