Acorn Oaks RV Park, spanning over 25 acres in Francesville, has become a serene escape for guests seeking a family-friendly, peaceful camping experience. November marks two years since Christie and Bill Nicholson, a dedicated husband-and-wife team, took ownership, working steadily to improve and enhance the park to meet guest expectations.
With 105 RV sites, free wi-fi, a camp store, a beer and wine lounge, a playground, a recreational hall featuring arcade games, and a snack shack, the park offers a variety of amenities that cater to all ages.
“Bill and Christie Nicholson, after relocating to Indiana from Arizona in the fall of 2022, bring a fun-loving personality to Acorn Oaks RV Park. Their journey to find the perfect place to raise their children – and their quest to find a close-knit community, green grass, trees, and changing seasons – landed them at Indiana’s best-kept secret – Acorn Oaks RV Park,” the park indicated on its website.
Christie, who has years of camping experience, shared her vision for the park. “We’ve done pitch camping, pop-up camping, trailer camping, and have even camped during multi-day river kayaking trips. We’ve stayed at dozens of campgrounds over the years, and we made a list of the things we liked and disliked about them. I hated staying at campgrounds where quiet time was not monitored,” she said, as reported by NWI Life.
Since acquiring the nearly 80-year-old RV park, the Nicholsons have embarked on a series of upgrades. They’ve added new amenities, including a laundry room and a dog park, repainted the bathhouse, and replaced its toilets. This year, the park secured a permit to sell beer and wine, adding another unique offering for guests.
The couple also actively considers guest feedback for future upgrades. “We’ve tried really hard to stay in our niche of being a family-friendly park, so we take our guests’ feedback into account so we can learn what families are looking for,” Christie explained.“For example, we’ve had several people ask if we offer golf cart rentals, so we’ve added that to the list of upgrades we plan to implement.”
One of the most significant improvements this year was dredging the park’s pond to create a safe swimming area. They transformed the shore into a beach and installed a well to ensure consistent water levels.
Other plans include upgrading the electrical system and adding a gym, ensuring the park remains modern and accommodating.
According to its website, Acorn Oaks RV Park offers a wide range of amenities to enhance guests’ camping experience, including a banquet hall for all types of events, the Hops and Grapes Lounge, and a snack shack with a variety of treats. Outdoor activities include a dog park, a stocked fishing pond, walking trails, a basketball court, corn hole, and horseshoes, along with wagon rides for added fun.
