Illinois Campground Association Releases 2026 Camping Magazine Highlighting Route 66 Centennial

The Illinois Campground Association (ICA) has released its 2026 Illinois camping magazine, available in print and digital formats, offering travelers a free copy or an online view at illinoisgocamping.com.

The 36-page publication provides detailed information on Illinois-based campgrounds and RV parks while marking two significant 2026 milestones: the 100th anniversary of U.S. Route 66 and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

According to a press release, ICA board chairman Jamie Rogers, owner of Mendota Hills Campground in Amboy, distributed the magazine at the Chicago RV & Camping Show, noting strong positive feedback from attendees.

“We are proud to be the starting point of Route 66 for so many travelers. I saw firsthand the look of nostalgia on people’s faces as they explored our new ICA guides seeing the Route 66 signage on the cover and reading the articles,” Rogers said.

“Many reflected on what it meant to them,” Rogers said. “There’s no doubt that 2026 will place this historic highway at the heart of unforgettable journeys and memories for years to come. Our campgrounds across Illinois are ready and excited to welcome this incredible community of travelers!” Rogers added.

U.S. Route 66 begins in Chicago and runs through central and southern Illinois before continuing west across seven more states.

Established as part of the original United States Numbered Highway System, the route played a key role in westward migration and remains a prominent feature of American pop culture.

ICA President and CEO Don Bennett, Jr., said the highway’s legacy aligns with the association’s mission to support campgrounds and outdoor hospitality.

“It is a natural fit for campgrounds to celebrate an iconic route that brought prosperity to the outdoor hospitality industry and many other small businesses along the way. We hope many people are planning to slow down and take ‘the scenic route’ in their travels around Illinois this year, stopping at some of our terrific campgrounds along the way,” Bennett said.

The magazine functions as a travel and planning resource, featuring maps, park descriptions, editorial content, and advertisements. It provides campers with information to make reservations and plan visits, whether from home or while on the road.

All campgrounds featured are ICA members, a not-for-profit organization representing privately operated businesses ranging from small rustic campgrounds to full-service RV resorts.
