BLM, Pocatello Field Office Looking for Volunteer Hosts for Blackfoot Reservoir Campground

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Pocatello Field Office are looking for volunteers to be campsite hosts at Blackfoot Reservoir Campground from Memorial Day to Labor Day this year. Selected volunteers will act as BLM representatives at the campground, welcoming visitors and giving details.

The campground features boat ramps, potable drinking water, electrical hookups, a dump station, and vaulted restrooms. Meanwhile, the activities include camping, motorized and non-motorized boating, and day-use.

Hosts are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the campground facilities, such as cleaning and replenishing restrooms and picking up litter. They also assist in restocking the envelopes at fee stations, helping with the fee collection, cleaning garbage and ashes in fire rings, and informing visitors of the campground’s rules.

BLM volunteers will live on-site in their campers or camp trailers. The BLM offers the chosen camp host with a campsite for free with shade structures, water, sewer, and electrical hookups. They will also have an allowance of $30.00 per day for incidentals and propane.

The camp host must be present on-site every Thursday to Sunday with day-offs from Monday to Wednesday for personal time. They will be required to provide their own RV.

They must have the capability to work outside without supervision and in various weather conditions. The host will receive a uniform and vest for their work and must keep a professional and neat appearance.

“Campground hosts play a vital role in connecting visitors with their public lands,” said Melissa Warren, Pocatello Field Manager. “They are the first line of contact for the public and improve visitor’s experience by providing information and performing upkeep of the campground.”

The hosts of the Pocatello Camp must pass a background check before they are allowed to volunteer in the Federal government at the developed recreation facilities.
