The campgrounds at Lake Tobesofkee’s Claystone and Arrowhead Parks are set to receive extensive improvements as part of a $600,000 project funded by the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
The renovations, aimed at enhancing amenities and services, have necessitated the temporary closure of the campgrounds. Claystone closed on November 4, with Arrowhead scheduled to close on December 4, and both are expected to reopen by spring 2025. The remainder of the parks will stay open during the construction period, allowing public access to other recreational facilities.
According to a press release, a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction is planned for Tuesday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m. Lake Tobesofkee Director Donald Bracewell expressed optimism about the improvements, noting their potential to draw more campers by providing a better experience. The upgrades are expected to make the campgrounds more appealing and functional.
Bracewell emphasized the importance of these changes, noting how the improvements will tackle long-standing issues related to access and comfort. “They’ll have better access to water and electricity, and the pads will be much more durable and easier to set up on,” he said.
Both campgrounds will benefit from the installation of new electrical boxes and both in-ground and above-ground water connections, which are expected to simplify setup for campers and provide more reliable access to essential utilities.
One of the most significant upgrades will be the replacement of asphalt pads with concrete pads. Lake Tobesofkee will also see the addition of nine new docks, split between the two campgrounds. These docks are intended to improve access to water activities, allowing campers to engage more easily in boating and fishing.
