Craig City Council Approves Ridgeview Subdivision’s New RV Park

Craig City Council (Colorado) has given the green light to a new RV park in the Ridgeview subdivision, despite some concerns about traffic and long-term stays.

The Tunatua RV Park, located at the northeast corner of Wickes Avenue and Crescent Drive, will be built in two phases in order to comply with limitations set by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Phase one of the park will include 60 RV spaces, 12 tiny homes, a 5,490-square-foot welcome center, a patio with a pool, three bathhouses with showers, a playground, and a dog park. The tiny homes will be owned by the park and used as nightly Airbnb rentals.

According to the city building official,  Marlin Eckhof,  the plan meets all city land-use codes, and the property has zoning approval to serve as an RV park

As per a report from the Craig Press, the council approved the plan 6-1 with a few conditions, including adding a privacy fence, adjusting the landscaping, and putting in a second service road access for emergencies or maintenance.

According to one of the developers, Brian Henrie, the primary focus of the park will be tourists and short-term stays.

He said the park would be modeled after some of the more luxurious RV parks found in Utah, where one of the partners has developed existing parks geared toward middle to higher-end pricing. The park will have no problem asking disruptive patrons to leave, as unruly visitors would likely affect other guests.

The park owners also hope it can be utilized for community events or farmers’ markets during the slower seasons.
