Pleasant Valley Pit Campground Offers Rustic Camping Experience in California’s Eastern Sierra

Pleasant Valley Pit Campground in California’s Eastern Sierra provides an affordable and rustic camping option, charging $5 per site per night. With no reservation system, the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Bishop Field Office.

The campground features 75 RV and tent sites, each equipped with a fire pit, picnic table, and lantern holder. The BLM notes that the maximum recommended RV length is 30 feet. Essential services, including potable water, hook-ups, and a dump station, are unavailable, with the closest amenities located 12 miles south in Bishop.

Campers are limited to a maximum stay of 14 days at any single campground within the Bishop Field Office area, with an annual limit of 28 days across all its campgrounds. According to the BLM, exceptions to this rule require written permission from the Field Office Manager.

Off-highway vehicle (OHV) users are also reminded to familiarize themselves with area-specific rules and regulations. Motor vehicle speed within the campground is restricted to 10 mph, and vehicles must not exceed 15 mph within 50 feet of any campsite or area where people or animals are concentrated.

The BLM highlights that Poleta is the only open riding area for OHVs within the Bishop Field Office. All other areas are designated for limited use, restricting vehicles to established roads and trails. Off-route travel is strictly prohibited to protect the environment.

For OHV operation, vehicles must comply with California registration requirements, which include a Green Sticker, Red Sticker, or a California nonresident OHV use permit. Vehicles registered in other states must also meet legal requirements for operation within California.

Campers are encouraged to plan ahead and familiarize themselves with campground regulations and environmental guidelines. The BLM emphasizes that visitor compliance is vital for maintaining the natural integrity of the campground and surrounding areas.

The Pleasant Valley Pit Campground is known for its simplicity, appealing to those seeking a no-frills outdoor experience. Its proximity to the scenic Eastern Sierra landscapes makes it a popular choice for outdoor adventures.
