UK Police Gives Safety Tips To Motorhome Owners

Aylesbury Police Community Support officers who have been in the vicinity hand out safety advice to residents with motorhomes or caravans. This is due in part to an increase in thefts of motorhomes and caravans in the region.

Some safety tips for caravan and motorhome owners include installing a CCTV to cover the area in which their vehicle is parked, making sure the parking area has enough lighting, installing a wheel clamp, and more.

According to the police, a sensor security light that turns on when it senses movement is an option when it comes to setting up lighting. This will notify you if anyone is on your property.

Placing a safe bollard in front or installing a wheel clamp that can act as visual deterrents were also recommended.

To track a stolen motor vehicle, they also recommended installing a tracker. They suggested searching for systems that have met the Sold Secure Standard requirements. This will confirm their viability for caravan use, durability, and resistance to attack. Furthermore, having your postcode etched on any glass surface, including the headlights was recommended. This allows you to be identified as the owner in the event it is stolen or the thieves scratch the VIN number.

Owners of older models were advised to check door and window locks for replacement. The community support also advocated for installing an alarm, saying that some companies will include it in your home alarm system, so it is worth calling them.

Another tip is when you are not traveling, take anything valuable out. To show that the cupboards are empty, leave them open.

Those with motorhomes were told to consider getting an immobilizer fitted. While it won’t protect your contents, it will stop them from being stolen.

Police laid out these tips which they think will make your motorhome or caravan less attractive to thieves.
