Stoneleigh’s Camping Expansion Plan Draws Local Opposition

NAEC Stoneleigh’s proposal to extend its camping operations has drawn objections from nearby residents, citing concerns over past event management and property impacts. The proposed extension would cover an additional five years, beyond the current authorization set to expire in April 2025.

Grandstand Stoneleigh Events has submitted an application to Warwick District Council seeking permission to host up to 30 camping events annually, with accommodations for up to 1,524 tents and caravans at a time.

Under the proposal, camping events would be restricted to seven days per event and would adhere to specific operational guidelines. These include quiet hours after 11 PM, bans on recreational activities such as ball games and barbecues, and protocols requiring guests to keep dogs on leads and clean up after their pets. Campers would also be instructed to avoid leaving rubbish.

Local residents raised objections, pointing to issues experienced during previous events. Paul Harris, a nearby resident, shared his concern, citing inadequate security and traffic control. “Previous events have been poorly managed with a lack of traffic management and security, allowing access to the private road,” Harris said, as reported by Kenilworth Nub News.

He noted ongoing security problems with vehicles using private estate roads, including those in the Cunnery and Grovehurst areas, as well as damage to fences and verges along Mary Lodge Drive.

He added that campsite occupants have been observed littering and walking dogs without proper oversight.

NAEC Stoneleigh’s proposal underscores the importance of proactive engagement with the local community and addressing concerns early in the planning process. By consulting with local residents, developers can build trust, foster collaboration, and address potential issues upfront, paving the way for smoother approval and community support.
