Pembrokeshire County Council is seeking public feedback on planning guidance related to developments for caravans, camping, and chalets.
The Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) has been drafted in line with a capacity assessment conducted in 2019 and is intended to be used alongside the replacement Local Development Plan (LDP 2).
The Local Development Plan serves as a framework for evaluating planning applications and directing growth in areas of Pembrokeshire that fall outside the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The updated LDP 2 and the accompanying supplementary guidance are currently open for public consultation, as per the press release.
The guidance specifically examines the capacity of different Landscape Character Areas to support various types of visitor accommodation. It also provides advice on upgrading or expanding existing sites and on the potential for new site development.
This consultation comes at a time when Pembrokeshire’s outdoor hospitality sector continues to thrive. The region has received notable recognition in the 2024 Campsites.co.uk Camping and Glamping Awards, with six local sites earning eight distinctions.
These awards celebrate excellence in camping and glamping destinations across the UK, highlighting the area’s strong appeal to visitors seeking outdoor accommodations.
Among the winners, Folly Farm Holiday Park in Begelly secured two awards, including Best Family Campsite in South Wales and runner-up for Best Family Campsite in the UK. Other notable sites, such as Quarry Park Camping and Pelcomb Cross Campsite in Haverfordwest, as well as Oaklea in Narberth, were recognized for their exceptional offerings.
The consultation period is open until December 16, allowing residents to voice their opinions on these proposals. The documents are available for viewing on the council’s planning page.
Paper copies of the main documents can be accessed at County Hall in Haverfordwest and at Pembrokeshire libraries with public access.
Comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] or by post to: The Development Plans Team, County Hall, Freeman’s Way, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, SA61 1TP, by midnight on 16th December 2024.
