Glamping Pods Proposed for Longtime Caravan Site in Derbyshire

A planning application has been submitted for the installation of five glamping pods at Grange Farm in Wessington, Derbyshire, a site that has long been used for touring caravans and motorhomes

The proposal, put forward by Dan Witham, requests permission to build the timber pods on land owned by his father, David Witham. If approved, the five pentagonal pods will be located to the immediate east of the farmhouse and agricultural building, with parking spaces provided within the existing service yard.

The new development would be situated within a property that already offers double pitch sockets, ensuring an accessible electricity supply for visitors.

John Church Planning Consultancy Ltd, representing the applicants, emphasized the site’s long-standing use as a location for temporary accommodation and considers it “previously developed land.”

The proposed site for the glamping pods is not situated within any designated international or national nature conservation areas, which means there is no direct concern for protected wildlife habitats.

The design of the pods aims to integrate with the surrounding environment without disturbing the character of the area. “It is intimately connected, both physically and visually, with the adjacent buildings at Grange Farm, with which it shares its vehicular access and drainage facilities,” the planning statement indicated, as reported by Derbyshire Times on January 27.

The planning application argues that the proposed development would cause minimal disruption, given the existing infrastructure and the surrounding vegetation.

“It also benefits from substantial surrounding existing high hedges that afford significant and beneficial screening in a manner that ensures that this proposed development of a modest scale within the land does not impact adversely on the surrounding countryside and, importantly, on the amenities enjoyed by adjacent residents,” the planning statement added.
