Eco-Friendly Hobbit-Style Glamping Pods Planned for Isle of Arran’s Whiting Bay

Plans have been unveiled for the construction of two “hobbit-style” glamping huts on the Isle of Arran. The proposed development, called “Arran Burrows,” is being spearheaded by Glampitect and will be located at Kelvin Edge, Whiting Bay. The aim of the project is to promote eco-friendly tourism and enhance the local economy.

The development is set to include two glamping huts, offering 56 square meters of non-residential leisure space.

The project will also feature patios, secure bike storage, and landscaping with native trees and shrubs. The huts are planned as temporary installations, with each designed to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding landscape to minimize visual impact.

Sustainability is a key component of the project. Each hut will have its own sustainable drainage system and an electric vehicle charging station for guests. The materials used for construction will be eco-friendly, with plans to incorporate reclaimed materials, permeable landscaping, and energy-efficient fixtures.

Earlier this year, Glampitect proposed a similar development at Northern Heights near Kildonan on the island, but those plans were withdrawn following nine objections from local residents, who expressed concerns about the suitability of the site in a residential area.

The current proposal is said to align with local authority policies aimed at protecting the countryside while encouraging tourism. The development is also expected to support the local economy by promoting nearby attractions, hiring local contractors, and creating part-time job opportunities.

According to a report by Ayrshire Today, the glamping huts are designed to cater to couples and small families seeking nature-based accommodations.

The site will be open year-round, and measures will be in place to ensure minimal disruption to neighboring properties. The development will not accommodate party groups, and quiet hours will be enforced to maintain peace and quiet.

An on-site manager will be responsible for overseeing security, addressing guest needs, and ensuring compliance with site policies, including waste management and noise control.
