Dorset Holiday Parks Implement Initiatives to Decrease Carbon Footprint

To reduce their environmental impact, two Dorset holiday parks are implementing various energy-saving measures, according to a report by Yahoo! News.

These parks, Warmwell and Sandford, are both owned by Parkdean Resorts and are located near Weymouth and Dorchester, as well as in Poole, respectively.

As part of these initiatives, more than 1,200 solar panels will be installed at the parks to allow them to generate their own energy.

The solar panels will be placed on the roofing of the main complex at Warmwell and Sandford and are set to be fully operational by January and February, respectively.

Electric car charging stations have been installed at the resorts, and the company will replace 25 diesel vans with electric vans as part of a trial. These new vans are expected to reduce carbon emissions by 21.5 tonnes annually, which is equivalent to planting over 85 trees.

Jane Bates, the director of sustainability at Parkdean Resorts, said that these initiatives are significant steps for the company and will provide an opportunity to learn about reducing energy usage.

“We want to put sustainability at the heart of staycations at Parkdean Resorts, and we’re committed to caring for our people, parks, and planet, so we’re really excited to see the results of the trials next year and to implement these findings into our future decision-making,” she said.

Parkdean Resorts has made a commitment to reduce its carbon emissions by 25% by 2025. Some of the company’s holiday parks recently participated in the Great British Beach Clean, an event organized by the Marine Conservation Society to help keep the UK’s seas free of litter.
