Thirlestane Castle Caravan Park, nestled in the picturesque Scottish Borders, has received approval for expansion from the Scottish Borders Council.
According to Peeblesshire News, the park, which offers stunning vistas of the historic Thirlestane Castle in Lauder, will be enhancing its offerings within its current boundaries by introducing additional static caravans and lodges.
Originally established as a means to diversify income for the estate, the caravan park has grown into a sought-after destination for various types of visitors, including seasonal guests, tourers, and campers.
The expansion plan is a response to the increasing demand for seasonal holiday homeowners, reflecting a broader trend in the UK’s outdoor hospitality industry.
The caravan park currently offers a range of accommodation options. It features 73 static caravans or lodges, 55 seasonal touring pitches, a small camping field with 14 pitches, and 15 pitches for off-road tourers. The park operates under a license permitting static caravan occupancy from the beginning of March until December 23.
“The proposed increase in number of static caravans and lodges is required to meet a high customer demand for these type of units rather than the touring and camping stances which they are replacing,” the application states.
While the exact timeline for completion has not been specified, future guests can look forward to an expanded selection of accommodation choices in this scenic location.
This growth at Thirlestane Castle Caravan Park is indicative of the increasing popularity of outdoor hospitality experiences in the Scottish Borders. As the park moves forward with its expansion plans, it aims to strengthen its position within the local tourism landscape, potentially setting a precedent for similar developments in the region. The expansion is also expected to create new job opportunities and increase visitor spending in local businesses, contributing to the broader economic development of the area while retaining the park’s natural allure.
