Hyundai has revealed the Staria Camper Concept, an electric minivan transformed into a premium camper designed with family adventures and off-grid capability in mind.
According to an article by Daxstreet, featuring a power-operated pop-up roof, electronically adjustable smart glass, and an integrated solar panel, the concept highlights how Hyundai’s electric people mover platform could be adapted into a high-end recreational vehicle.
Whether the Staria Camper reaches production will depend on public response at a major German trade show, where the vehicle is currently being evaluated.
The concept arrives just days after Hyundai introduced the nine-seat Staria electric minivan, signaling the company’s interest in exploring more specialized applications of its electric van architecture.
Compared with traditional boxy vans, the Staria Camper adopts a sleeker, more modern exterior design with slim daytime running lights, expansive glass surfaces with privacy treatment, and sliding doors that simplify entry and exit.
This approach positions the vehicle as a lifestyle-oriented alternative to more utilitarian camper conversions.
Inside, the power-operated pop-up roof plays a central role in enhancing livability by creating a more open interior while improving access to the kitchen area.
Integrated into the roof is a 520-watt composite solar panel capable of generating up to 2.6 kWh of electricity per day under optimal conditions.
This supplemental power can be used to operate onboard systems such as the refrigerator, portable shower, and climate control, providing added flexibility when traveling far from charging infrastructure.
The rear cabin also features electronically adjustable smart glass controlled via a dedicated touchscreen, allowing occupants to customize transparency levels for privacy and comfort.
Combined with the adaptable interior layout, which can be configured for sleeping, dining, or passenger transport, the adjustable glass adds versatility for different travel scenarios.
An exterior awning further expands usable living space by creating shaded outdoor areas when parked.
Under the body, the Staria Camper Concept shares its powertrain with the production Staria EV, using a single front-mounted electric motor producing 215 horsepower.
It benefits from Hyundai’s 800-volt electrical architecture, enabling rapid DC fast charging with a 10-to-80 percent recharge in approximately 20 minutes.
Estimated driving range is around 250 miles on the WLTP cycle, and additional sound insulation has been added to improve comfort during long journeys.
Hyundai plans to evaluate public reaction to the Camper Concept at the CMT trade fair through January 25, with potential production targeted specifically for the European market.
This development signals growing momentum toward electric camper vans that combine off-grid capability, compact maneuverability, and advanced technology for modern adventure travel.
