The budget for constructing a new building at Robert Service Campground (Yukon, Canada) has risen by CA$750,000, bringing the total to CA$3.87 million.
As per a report. the Whitehorse city council approved the spending unanimously at its April 25 meeting.
The new structure was designed as a space that would allow the city-owned campground to be open for more of the year and increase recreational opportunities.
Despite plans for the building already being scaled back when the tender was released, each of the three compliant bids that came in was over the CA$3.12-million budget, with the lowest being over by CA$750,000.
As pointed out in the previous report to the council, the rise is due to rising costs worldwide.
The City of Whitehorse is experiencing a significant price increase on recent construction projects as a result of national and international supply chain issues, rising commodity and inflationary rates, as well as a very active local construction industry,” it was noted in an earlier report to council.
