Weyburn’s River Park Campground Visitor Numbers Back to Pre-COVID Levels

The jewel of Weyburn’s Park System (Saskatchewan, Canada), River Park Campground, is seeing a return to pre-pandemic visitor numbers in 2022, according to the season-end report from parks manager Curtis Block.

As per a report from Sask Today, 677 visitors went to River Park between May 15 and October 1. This is an increase from the years 2020 and 2021, mainly because of the removal of COVID restrictions.

The report highlighted that 41% of visitors came from Saskatchewan, 17% came from the U.S. and Alberta accounted for 15% of visitors.

The city’s total revenue for 2022 totaled CA$50,588, which was higher than the levels for 2020 and 2021 and more on par with 2018 and 2019.

The council approved a hike in campground fees for the 2022-2024 seasons, with serviced sites increasing from CA$30 to CA$35 while non-serviced sites increased from CA$18 to CA$20.

New windows were also installed in the campground building in the past year, with plans to put in new window blinds, as well as update the washroom countertops, and paint the inside of the building in 2023.

The city is also planning to implement an online reservation system by 2023 in order to simplify campground reservations, and reservations for the gazebo are scheduled to be included in the online booking system.

Fifty-four new trees have been planted in River Park since 2020 to aid in the replacement of dying and declining trees. The majority of the trees were from Tatagwa tree donations, as well as trees bought from the operating budget.

An automated irrigation system was installed in 2021, and this year, an irrigation system was installed to water the flowerbed near the center of the park.

Nestled within Weyburn along the Souris River, River Park Campground is an ideal campground for people of all ages. The park features a playground, a spray park, and an abundance of green space.

As per the city’s website, the campground has 28 double-wide sites serviced with water and both 15 and 30-amp electrical in addition to tenting areas.  The park has numerous picnic and barbecue areas, perfect for large gatherings.
