The pandemic significantly impacted Canada’s tourism industry, this is the reason why the Canadian government continuously helps tourism businesses recover and position the industry for strong future growth.
Earlier this week, Mike Kelloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso, announced total investments of CA$1,326,420 for 13 projects through the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF) on Cape Breton Island and in Guysborough County.
Projects include the construction of four sustainable luxury domes with kitchenettes, bathrooms, and Wi-Fi at Northeast Cove Geodomes in Mabou. The project supports a new all-seasons business as it will eventually create a unique tourism experience to draw travelers to the area throughout the year. Another project is the modernization of 20 of Inverness Beach Village’s cottages, with upgrades to kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, roofing, siding, and windows.
Launched in July 2021, the TRF was created to help organizations and businesses in the tourism sector adapt their operations to meet public health requirements, offer innovative products and services to visitors, and prepare to welcome back travelers. Canada’s regional development agencies are delivering CA$485 million in TRF support.

The Tourism Relief Fund will help businesses adapt, make improvements and be ready to welcome back guests. It also feeds into a broader strategy to help the sector survive the pandemic, recover and grow. The Canadian economy will not fully recover until our tourism sector recovers,” said The Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance.
