Vernon Council OKs New RV Sani-Dump Site

Vernon council (British Columbia, Canada) has approved the construction of a new RV sani-dump facility on Tronson Road across the city’s airport.

According to a report, the council voted 6-0 in favor of the new RV sani-dump site.

The council agreed to spend CA$175,000 on building the facility on a city-owned site at 6401 Tronson Road.

Staff told the council the Tronson site was not considered when the temporary site at Kin Race Track was developed as the site was still in use, but it is no longer being used and is a viable location for a sani-dump.

The city-run facility has been in several locations over the years, including on 25th Avenue by the water reclamation center in the former Civic Arena parking lot and at its current temporary site at the former Kin Park Track land on 43rd Avenue.

Utilities Manager Sean Irwin said in a report to the council that the Kin Race Track location has been successful, but it has led to complaints by residents living on the south side of 43rd Avenue across from the facility–which was designed to only be a temporary site.

To be considered a suitable site for the RV sani-dump, the site must be a long-term solution, have minimal impact on the surrounding community, be easily accessible for large recreational vehicles, have services in close proximity, provide suitable stacking areas, and have adequate space to provide a minimum of two dumping stations,” Irwin stated his the report.

The dumping site, which could have up to four stations, will take up about an acre of the site and leave the remaining four acres for its current use.

“The cost to construct the temporary facility at the Kin Park site was CA$92,913. The estimated cost to construct the proposed facility on Tronson Road is CA$175,000. This will include a gravel surface, concrete lane dividers, signage, four dumping stations, engineering, and contingencies,” wrote Irwin.
